Life around an erupting volcano isn't easy.
Hawaiians have
to deal with the gasses that come from the volcanoes. These fumes
are very unhealthy, and some days are worse than the worst days
in Los Angeles.
Locals call
this pollution "Vog", and alerts are issued when levels
rise.
While we are
used to the lava flows on the south part of Hawaii, in the 1900s
lava flows covered parts of western Hawaii. Flows in the 1800s covered
parts of northern Hawaii, and the 1700s even saw an erupton
on Maui!
